Ways to aid in farming along the coast

As the previous post highlighted, there are various constraints when it comes to farming along the coast. Therefore this posts suggests some tips when it comes to mitigating the effects of coastal damage, due to hurricanes, and times of intense weather outside of the season:

1. Raised Vegetable Plots
By raising the plots of land that have the agricultural crops, they automatically stand a better chance of escaping the sea water surging towards land. When the crops are elevated, they also have a better chance of escaping salt spray as the soil is now easier to cover, thus preventing damage from sea blast. Gardens can be raised by using wood, a non permiable sturdy material that would defend against the storm surge.

2. Planting salt tolerant vegetables
There are some vegetables that can survive a slightly more saline environment, such as the one closer to the sea. By planting salt tolerant crops, there is a less chance of reduced yield as these produce have an added ability to survive. Some examples of these salt tolerant food crops are:
-Beets

-Kale

-Asparagus

-Spinach

Additionally, there are salt tolerant ornamental plants, as seen in the image below:
